Artis College Research Opportunities Fund
In the Artis College of Science and Technology, we pride ourselves on the ability to make undergraduate research opportunities available to our students. Undergraduate research is of supreme importance as it allows our students to stand out among their undergraduate peers at other institutions. Students at many institutions don’t have the ability to get more deeply involved with their discipline through research until they are in graduate school. We are pleased to make this option available to our students earlier than their peers.
During the summer we endeavor to connect our students with dedicated faculty supervisors in a summer research project. We want to create a vibrant summer research program where dozens of Radford University undergraduate students spend 8-12 weeks on campus during the summer fully devoted to research that can lead to a presentation at a national conference and/or publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Since many of our students rely on summer jobs to bolster their capacity to cover academic expenses for the upcoming year, many are unable to engage in summer research. With this in mind, we are striving to provide a summer stipend via the Artis College Research Opportunities Fund for the research program to open up the opportunity to participate to financially-challenged students who otherwise could not take advantage of the best component of a Radford University science education – participation in research.
