Thanks to strong support from the Highlander community, Radford rose to the top of 32 competitors for its incredible access to outdoor recreation, thriving campus culture and commitment to adventure. With the New River and Blue Ridge Mountains as our backyard, there's no better place to learn and explore.
Radford University's Outdoor Programs, within the division of Student Recreation and Wellness, aims to provide outdoor adventures, promote healthy self-discovery and unlock student leadership potential. We offer a wide variety of outdoor and adventure-based activities for Radford University students and the surrounding community. We're passionate about allowing students to explore the world around them in ways that, for some, are only possible in the college setting. Participation in activities like these allows our students to apply their experiences to lifelong lessons, deepening their preparation for future roles. We are confident our programming was a contributing factor in helping the university secure the “Top Adventure College” title, and we are working to extend these amazing opportunities to a broader range of students.
To do this, we hope to relieve financial barriers—such as equipment rentals and other fees—that may be an obstacle for some students. That is why we established the Outdoor Programs Student Support Fund. Through this fund we have helped removed barriers to outdoor experiences for our students and helped them participate in transformative excursions to places like the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota and the Superstition Wilderness in Arizona.
The commitment of our Highlander community helped the university secure the top "Adventure College" spot in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic for 2025.
