Our student veterans pursue a degree at Radford University for a number of reasons. From increasing their career opportunities and expanding their skillsets, to improving the quality of life for themselves and their families, student veterans enter college with unique goals and perspectives. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) finds that student veterans enter college with a considerable amount of life experiences. For example, they are more likely to be married, have at least one dependent and are more likely to be working to support themselves and/or their families. In addition, 62% of student veterans are first-generation college students.
These unique perspectives lend themselves to unique life – and often financial - challenges. The Lewis Sparks and Ken Coan Veterans Award increases access to a Radford University education for veteran students on Radford's main campus and at RUC by alleviating some of the financial commitment. When you support this cause, you will help student veterans apply their military skills in new ways, support themselves and their families with expanded career opportunities as well as develop new skills for the future.
Please consider making your gift today to help this cause be the first to raise $1,910 during the Highlander10 Challenge and unlock an additional $1,000 generously provided by the Radford University Foundation. The competition ends on December 1.
