Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Build the Hive.

What is #BuildtheHive? Why "the Hive?"

The beehive, used in the University’s official seal, represents the community of our Radford Family both on and off campus. Our “hive” also represents the industry of our community and the concept of many coming together for the benefit of the whole.

The #BuildTheHive Challenge is a 48-hour digital fundraising event where our Radford Family comes together to impact funds that will expand scholarship support and enrich the academic experience for students in each of our academic colleges. Expanding scholarship support makes education accessible to bright, promising students.

Who can make gifts during the #BuildTheHive challenge?

Anyone can support the funds hosted during #BuildTheHive by making a gift. #BuildTheHive is a great opportunity for our vast alumni base to come together to expand scholarship support and enrich the academic experience for students in each of our academic colleges.  It is also a great opportunity for our even broader community - our Radford Family - to join in and support students. All of the funds hosted during #BuildTheHive need the support of our Radford Family. You can help increase access to educational opportunities and enrich the experience for students at Radford University by making your gift today!

NOTE: This giving day counts only unique donors in the donor totals displayed on the page. Therefore, only one gift per donor, per fund will be counted toward the college/fund totals and consequently toward any donor challenges.

What is a Regional Alumni Chapter? How do I get in contact with my chapter?

Regional Alumni Chapters are based on areas where 750 or more alumni live. See a list of Regional Alumni Chapter contacts HERE, to connect with the chapter in your region!

Is my gift tax deductible?

All gifts made during #BuildtheHive are considered a donation to Radford University on behalf of the Radford University Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization. Please contact your financial advisor regarding the tax-deductibility of your gift.

I can't afford to make a large gift. Will my donation really make a difference?

Absolutely! Smaller gifts quickly add up to make a big impact. Plus, every gift improves the University's donor "participation" rate - the rate at which donors give back financially to support the institution - which in turn raises Radford's profile in national rankings and increases the value of a Radford University degree.

Why am I getting an error making my donation?

- Please make sure you selected an area to direct your gift, entered a gift amount and all of the information for required fields.

- Try donating on a different device such as a phone, tablet or computer.

- Try donating with a different web browser.

If you are still having issues, please contact Crystal Hubbard at cdhubbar@radford.edu.

Where does my gift go?

One hundred percent of all gifts to #BuildTheHive funds are directed to the Radford University Foundation fund that supports the project’s purpose. This fund is agreed upon by the project creators, Radford University Office of University Advancement and the Radford University Foundation. All funds are held by the Radford University Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is operated exclusively for raising, investing and administering private gift funds for the benefit of Radford University. Please consult your tax adviser to determine the tax-deductibility of your gift.

Who can I contact if I have any questions about how my gift is utilized?

Please contact the Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Crystal Hubbard by email at cdhubbar@radford.edu.

Is my contribution amount publicly displayed? Can I make an anonymous contribution.

When making a gift and filling out your billing information in our secure portal, under “Donor Wall Settings,” you may control whether to display your name, donation amount, neither or both.

I am very passionate about my favorite fund and want to help it win a donor challenge. Can I make multiple gifts to the fund to help it reach its donor goal and win the challenge prize?

This giving day counts only unique donors in the donor totals displayed on the page. Therefore, only one gift per donor, per fund will be counted toward the college/fund totals and consequently toward any donor challenges. If you give multiple times to the same fund (even if you change the name) our system will only count your gift once.
