The Highlander Pantry
In an ideal world there would be no food insecurity, but Radford University’s Office of Student Affairs recognized that a need does exist, not only across the nation, but right here at home. In response, The Highlander Pantry has been established. Whether it’s due to financial constraints, work shifts that end later than dining hall hours, or maxed-out meal swipes at the end of the semester, there are many reasons college students may experience food insecurity. Challenges like these have the potential to harm a student’s ability to achieve their educational and professional goals by disrupting their focus. Campus-based pantries ensure that students can focus on their education and thrive academically without the burden of hunger.
The assistance of campus and national partners has allowed us to begin to meet this need. We have also been working diligently to spread the word about this resource to our campus community.
As campus awareness about The Highlander Pantry has grown, we are calling upon the Highlander Community to ensure we remain prepared to answer the call and meet the needs of our students.
We incur costs for day-to-day supplies and travel to pick up food items from our partners. In addition, some basic foods – such as bread, cheese, milk, eggs, etc. – are difficult to keep consistently stocked. With your help, we can maintain a consistent stock of basic food items, cover the travel (roughly 50 miles away) to pick up food, and maintain the resources needed to keep the pantry running!
Help us fuel the success of our students by meeting their need for reliable food with your donation today!
