Below you will find answers to many common questions about RAD48 2021.
What is RAD48?
RAD48 is a 48-hour fundraising competition that will support all 16 of Radford University’s Division I sports. In light of reductions and loss of revenue spanning the last year and a half, for the next 48 hours we will look to our alumni, donors, friends and colleagues to assist us in any way possible in our first-ever giving initiative to rebuild the foundation of Radford Athletics.
Who can make gifts during RAD48?
Anyone can support Radford Athletics by making a gift. Alumni, parents, friends, students (both undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff are encouraged to participate.
Is my gift tax deductible?
All gifts made during RAD48 are considered a donation to Radford University Athletics. Please contact your financial advisor regarding the tax deductibility of your gift. Your gift will be acknowledged with an e-mail receipt for your tax records.
Where does my gift go?
One hundred percent of all gifts are directed to the fund you choose (Highlander Club Annual Fund, Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund, Women's Sports Leadership Fund). All three funds are held by the Radford University Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is operated exclusively for raising, investing and administering private gift funds for the benefit of Radford University. Please consult your tax adviser to determine the tax-deductibility of your gift.
Why can I only choose unrestricted funds?
Unrestricted funds are critical because they touch ALL student-athletes and allow for greater flexibility in supporting the areas that need it the most across the department:
- Scholarships
- Academic support services
- Athletic Training
- Nutrition
- Strength and Conditioning
- Facility Enhancements

I already gave this fiscal year, why should I give again?
As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of college athletics in response to COVID-19, it is still a priority to support our student-athletes as they continue their education and pursue their undergraduate or graduate degrees. The operating and scholarship budgets for Radford Athletics have had to continually adjust throughout the academic year, and we need any and all support available to assist us at this time.
I can't afford to make a large gift. Will my donation really make a difference?
Yes! Smaller gifts quickly add up to make a big impact. Plus, every gift improves Radford Athletics' donor participation rate, which in turn raises Radford's profile in national rankings and increases the value of a Radford degree.
